The Libyan ambassador to the UK has told Sky news that Colonel Gaddafi is dead.

Mahmud Nacua, the Charge d’affaires at the Libyan embassy in London confirmed the news and this has been followed up by the NTC vice-chairman.

Reports state that Gaddafi died of wounds sustained in capture near his hometown of Sirte on Thursday. Meanwhile, NATO confirmed that it hit a convoy of Gaddafi loyalists near the City.

If the news is true, the next step will be how the NTC moves forward to create a stable country, overcoming angry, divided factions and motivating young people, now armed, to put down their weapons and focus on building a democratic state. No mean feat.
